Catherine de Médicis

Catherine de Médicis was the daughter of Laurent II de Médicis and Madeleine de La Tour d’Auvergne. She married the future Henri II in 1533.
She was queen of France from 1547 to 1559, the mother of three kings and two queens, and the mother-in-law of Mary Stuart and Henri IV. Throughout her life, Catherine de Médicis wielded considerable power (acting as regent on three occasions), and often attempted to impose a policy of conciliation towards Protestants.
