Perso

Charlotte Des Essarts

1580-1651

Charlotte Des Essarts, comtesse de Romorantin, was Henri IV's mistress between 1607 and 1608.

She gave birth to two daughters, one of whom, Jeanne-Baptiste de Bourbon, was legitimised in 1608. Henri's relation with Charlotte Des Essarts took place while the king, who was married to Marie de Médicis, was also carrying on a relationship with Jacqueline de Bueil. After the death of the king, Charlotte bore six children to Louis, the third cardinal de Guise, and married François de L’Hospital in 1630.
