1568-1654
Hercule de Rohan, duc de Montbazon, was a loyal servant to both Henri III and Henri IV.
He was in the royal carriage on the day of the assassination, and was himself wounded by the third thrust of Ravaillac's knife. Rushing back to the Louvre, he helped carry Henry IV's lifeless body into the queen's chambers. Later, surrounded by 400 horsemen, he was entrusted with escorting the king's heart to the Jesuit College in La Flèche.
