Rudolf II was Holy Roman Emperor from 1576 to 1612, king of Bohemia and king of Hungary.
He was the son of Maximilian II, (Holy Roman Emperor, king of Bohemia and king of Hungary) and Maria of Spain, the daughter of Charles V. In 1609–10, he put himself forward as negotiator of the succession of the duchies of Clèves and Juliers. The sudden death of Henri IV put an end to the prospect of war between the two rulers.
